Wine Varieties

In ancient times, Atalanti was known as Οπουντία Λοκρίδα (pron., Opountia Lokrida), but was shortened to Ὀπούς (pron., Opous).

At our Galanos vineyard, our Cabernet Franc is  harvested in low yields. No irrigation systems are used at this vineyard in order to increase concentration.

  • Protected Geographical Indication (PGI) Atalanti Valley

  • Red vinification in temperature-controlled stainless steel vinificator. It ages for at least 12 months in new French oak barriques and it remains in our underground cellars for 36 months in the bottle.

  • A wine of limited production sourced from a selected, small vineyard with a unique microclimate, (Galanos), part of the private owned vineyard of the Hatzimichalis Estate, in Atalanti Valley. Selection upon grapes is crucial for its quality as well. This Cabernet Franc is  harvested in low yields and without any irrigation systems , resulting in high concentrated grapes.

  • Nose

Very pronounced on the nose. Red fruits, tomato leaves, sweet spices, cedar, vanilla and charred wood. They all add to the tertiary aromas and earthy character.

    Palate

Additionally, baked fruits and vegetables make their presence  on the palate, as well as dried fruits, mostly raisins. Soft tannins, full body, complexity and long aftertaste. An overall outstanding and balanced wine, ideal for ageing.
