Best wines to drink in summer

Summer is finally here and that is the perfect excuse to lay back and enjoy a good wine.

After a long year of quarantining, this summer we want to share a fine wine with our loved ones. Social distancing kept us apart -but safe- from the people we love, and it’s about time to start socialising again (with safety measures, of course). So, we’re here to make life easy for you and recommend the best wines for the summer of 2021. These are our choices:

The ideal red wine for the summer

Picture yourself in a Greek island, the sweet, summer breeze gently touching your hair and body, while enjoying a cool glass of red wine as you gaze the deep blue of the Aegean. Of course, we are talking about Schioppettino-Limnio! The taste of red cherry, raspberry, and dried fig compliment the various spices such as cinnamon that tickle your taste buds as well as your nose. Its light body and crisp acidity makes this the perfect refreshment and ideal wine for the summer.

Extra tip: Enjoy it chilled (10-12 °C) and in the next 5-10 years.

Summer from A to Ω

When you imagine the summer, you might think of the sea, the sun and vacation time, but what good would all of that be without the right people to share it with? We love summer from A to Z (or Alfa and Omega in the Greek Alphabet) that’s why we created Alfega Rosé. A refreshing, aromatic wine from three selected vineyards of Domaine Hatzimichalis: two reds (Syrah & Grenache Rouge) and one white (Malagousia). You can’t help but love the vibrant aromas of strawberry and raspberry with notes of bubblegum, of course with the distinctive fruity finish. The red fruits are dominant, while leaving a subtle sweetness. Perfection on a sunny day during the summer as it has medium acidity and a light and refreshing body.

The best wine to pair with seafood

If you love seafood, the summer must have a special place in your heart. There in no season like the summer where you you can enjoy the fresh seafood of Greece at a traditional taverna by the sea, in your backyard, on a balcony with friends, or even on by the beach under the sound of waves.

If you want the perfect wine to combine with fish, shrimps, oysters and all the other lovely seafood then search no more!

We recommend the deeply aromatic white wine Malagousia Dryos, with pronounced aromas of peach, lemon peel, blossoms and orange leaf. You’ll love the floral and citrus aroma as well as the flavour of tropical fruits and subtle vanilla notes. It holds medium acidity, a light body, fruity after taste, and lovely oak-influenced balance.

Summer Dates with Sauvignon Blanc

We can’t think of summer without romance. The clear moon and the summer breeze give us the perfect date nights.

Sauvignon Blanc is a delicate wine on the palate, with a light body crisp acidity, not very complex, and yields pleasant aftertaste, all aspects which contribute to a refreshing, vivid wine. It has a plethora of pronounced aromas of primary fruits, citrus, melon, green apple, pear, lemon zest, white flowers and herbs that will tingle your tastebuds.
